As you prepare to wrap up your time with Alera Group, here are some important reminders about your benefits.
Retirement is a major milestone ⎯ you’ve worked hard to get here, and you deserve time to celebrate your career and achievements!
Check with your Manager or Office Leader about any unused paid time off and how it will be handled when you retire.
Consider your options for medical coverage in retirement. Take time to learn more about Medicare (if you are eligible), COBRA, or a Marketplace plan so you can make the right choice for you. For more information, see the Turning 65 life event and When Benefits End page.
Use any remaining Flexible Spending Account funds before your last day of work. Be sure to submit any claims for reimbursement incurred in the calendar year by March 31 of next year.
If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), you can continue to use your HSA funds tax-free for eligible expenses even after you retire. However, you must stop contributing to your HSA at least six months before signing up for Medicare — you’re not eligible to contribute to an HSA when enrolled in Medicare.
Prepare financially for retirement with your Alera Group 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan. You can choose to keep your funds in the plan, roll them over, or start taking distributions. Keep in mind that if you are under age 59½, you will be subject to a 10% early withdrawal penalty from your 401(k). Contact Principal for more details.
You have the option to continue your life insurance coverage after you retire. Contact Unum to learn more.
You might need to update your mailing address in the HR System to ensure you receive tax forms and other future communications.
