A Leave of Absence allows you to take time away from work to care for yourself and your family.
Leave Under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitles you to take 12 weeks (or 26 weeks, as applicable) of unpaid, job-protected leave in a 12-month period for specified family and medical reasons. During that time away, you can continue your coverage in Alera Group health insurance.
To be eligible for FMLA, you must have worked for Alera Group for at least one year and completed at least 1,250 hours of service during the 12-month period immediately preceding the commencement of leave.
Personal Leaves of Absence
If you are not eligible for a leave of absence under FMLA, you may be able to take a Personal Leave of Absence.
Personal Leaves of Absence may be taken up to 60 consecutive calendar days in any one rolling 12-month period. During that time away, you can continue your coverage in Alera Group health insurance.
You generally must use all your available earned time (sick, vacation and other paid time) while on personal leave unless prohibited by law. After you have used all available earned time, the remainder of the Personal Leave of Absence is unpaid. If you do not have any available earned time, the entire Personal Leave of Absence is unpaid.
Personal Leaves of Absence are granted as the sole discretion of Alera Group.
