You’re eligible for Alera Group benefits if you’re an active colleague who works a minimum of 30 hours per week. You become benefits-eligible on the first of the month after your hire date (unless otherwise noted). You can also cover eligible dependents for most benefits.
Your dependents are eligible if they are:
*Includes natural, step, legally adopted/or a child placed for adoption, or a child under your legal guardianship.
If you choose to cover a dependent on your Alera Group coverage when you enroll, you must submit documentation for the coverage to take effect.
It's important to know that, under federal law, Alera Group’s contribution toward the cost of coverage for your domestic partner and their dependents is considered taxable income to you. Domestic partner premiums will be deducted on a post-tax basis. You may wish to consult with a tax advisor for more information.
Visit the Alera Group Benefits Center to add your dependents to coverage, then follow the prompts to upload the necessary documentation.
If you or a covered dependent no longer meet eligibility requirements, or if your Alera Group employment ends:
You may be eligible to elect COBRA for yourself and your eligible dependents for certain benefits. You may also be eligible to take some life coverages with you on a direct bill basis. See the When Benefits End page for details.
