If you enroll in medical coverage through Alera Group, you automatically get prescription drug coverage. Your benefits depend on the medical plan you choose.
If your medical coverage is through BCBS, UHC or Surest, you receive prescription drug coverage through Optum Rx.
If you choose a Kaiser plan (available in California only), you receive prescription drug coverage through Kaiser.
Coverage is for in-network participating pharmacies only.
If you take medication on a regular basis, use Optum Rx home delivery/mail order to save time and money.
Some medications may be subject to prior authorization, quantity limits or step therapy.
Covered medications are divided into tiers based on the coverage formulary. In general, the higher the tier, the higher the price you pay. You can use Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds to pay for prescriptions and certain over-the-counter items.
See the Optum Rx Formulary or contact Kaiser for a list of covered medications.
You can also use the Optum Rx Price Lookup Tool to find prescription drug costs.
Certain preventive prescription medications are offered at no cost to you in the PPO, Surest, and Kaiser plans. In the HDHP plans, you pay a flat copay before the deductible for certain preventive prescriptions. See a list of preventive medications for each medical plan:
