Key Updates About Spending Accounts

There are big updates this year, including a new Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA), a move to MyChoice Accounts, and important rollover rules. Here’s what you need to know.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

Note: This information applies only to those HSA owners whose funds are transferring from AleraPay.

  • From March 13 to April 3, the AleraPay accounts for most colleagues will be frozen while the funds are transferred to your new MyChoice Accounts HSA.
    • If you had a zero balance with AleraPay, nothing will transfer.
    • For a smaller group of colleagues who did not elect an HSA in 2026 but have an existing HSA with AleraPay, a separate bulk transfer will happen in mid-April. This group of colleagues should see AleraPay funds in their MyChoice Accounts HSA no later than April 23.
  • The funds transferred from AleraPay should show up in your MyChoice Accounts HSA no later than April 17.
  • If you have expenses during the freeze, you can:
    • Pay out of pocket and get reimbursed, or
    • Use available funds in your new MyChoice Account HSA.
  • Once your funds have been transferred, you have the option of re-investing a portion of your account through UMB Bank, powered by MyChoice Accounts.
  • If you need an additional HSA debit card (e.g., for your spouse), you must request it from MyChoice Accounts at 888-850-1765.

Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

Health Care or Limited Purpose FSA
  • By April 28, leftover 2025 funds will be automatically transferred—up to the IRS limit of $660—to your MyChoice Accounts FSA.
  • If you did not enroll in a 2026 FSA and have leftover funds, a MyChoice Accounts FSA will still be opened for you as a one-time exception.
  • Your new balance will appear by late April or early May.

Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA)

  • If you get a qualified annual physical (or well-woman visit) in 2026, you’ll receive $500 in an LSA with MyChoice Accounts.
  • Please note that you must be an active colleague on an Alera Group medical plan at the time of your physical and when funds are issued. Physicals completed before enrolling in an Alera Group medical plan are not eligible.
  • The funds will appear in your LSA approximately 45 to 60 days after your physical.
  • If you are enrolled in BCBS, UHC or Surest, you do not need to take any action after the visit. The carrier will confirm to MyChoice Accounts that your visit was completed.
  • If you are enrolled in Kaiser, after your preventive care visit, complete and submit a form (available on the Reference Center of the Alera Group Benefits Center).
  • You can use the $500 for a well-being product or service that benefits you physically, financially or mentally. You must pay for the item or service out of pocket and seek reimbursement through MyChoice Accounts. There is no debit card.
