Getting divorced or ending a domestic partnership can be stressful. This checklist of helpful tips and reminders about your Alera Group benefits can help ease some of the stress.
Divorce/end of a domestic partnership is what’s called a qualified life event. With proper documentation, that gives you permission to make relevant updates to your Alera Group benefits, but you must make those updates within 30 days of the event.
Consider these changes:
Go to the Alera Group Benefits Center within 30 days. (You may be required to submit documentation.)
You may need to update your personal information in the HR System like your last name, mailing address, phone number or emergency contact.
You might also need to update your beneficiary information for:
Updating your will is important. You want to be sure your estate plan accurately reflects your current wishes.
If you’re enrolled in the Legal Benefit, it could be free for you to update your will. If you’re not enrolled at the time of your divorce/end of domestic partnership, you can enroll during the next Open Enrollment period.
